Rosehips look like berries, and are actually the "fruits" of the rose bush that are left behind after the bloom has died. They are usually red or orange, but may also be dark purple to black in some species.

When citrus products were scarce in Great Britain, during World War II, Rosehips were harvested there from the wild to make Rosehip syrup as a Vitamin C supplement for children. In 77 A.D., it was noted by Roman scholar Pliny that 32 disorders responded to treatment with Rosehip preparations. Medieval herbals concoctions also contained many entries that tell of the restorative properties of this fruit.

The Rosehip contains 60 times more Vitamin C than lemons, and could help your pet prevent and fight infection by strengthening the immune system. It also provides Vitamins A, E, K, Rutin (bioflavonoid), iron, selenium, manganese and B-complex.

Rosehips may help restore the beneficial intestinal flora in the digestive system that has been destroyed by the use of antibiotics. It is said to soothe a pet‚'s nervous system and relieve exhaustion.

Studies in Denmark show that the anti-inflammatory properties (due to high levels of antioxidant flavonoids) of Rosehips can possibly be useful in the treatment of knee or hip osteoarthritis in pets, a degenerative joint disease characterized by the breakdown of cartilage in the joint, allowing bones to rub against each other, causing pain and loss of movement.

Said to provide major support to the kidneys, Rosehips may, as a result, boost adrenal function. They might also act as a natural blood purifier and detoxifier, ideal for pets who recently took, or regularly take, conventional medication.
